Business Changes

The new year brings some changes here at Little Square Farm, both behind the scenes and in front. We are changing the focus of the business , services and products. The goal is to simplify and make this journey more enjoyable. By simplifying we will be able to be very good at what we do. You know that old saying, “Jack of all trades, master of none.” We can then partner with others who are also good at what they do. This makes the work easier and less stressful and that makes it more enjoyable.

We want to start to use the word “craftsmanship” and have it really mean something. We want our customers to know they are getting the best. We will not be the cheapest. We will not compete on price. We will offer the best products and services we know how at a reasonable, sustainable price.

First the focus – We will be transforming LSF into a wholesale only business for our rain water harvesting products. Why, you ask? We do not have a retail location. This makes it difficult to do retail business. We already have wholesale customers who do so why not let them do the retails sales and we'll support them. It also keeps us from competing with our wholesale customers. We won't bite the hand that feeds us so to speak. We will support our wholesale customers with products, services and education. Here is a link to our retail stores that carry our products. This includes all of our rain barrels and divertors, custom paint, installation, design services and workshops, or as we will call them experiences.

We will also be expanding to offer a contractor program through some carefully selected wholesale customers. This will include product discounts and education. Again rather than duplicate services, why not partner and make it easier for everyone. Have no fear, we will still offer retail sales in areas where we do not currently have a wholesale partner. All of our services will be available to the public. Everything from custom painted barrels, installation and system design.

We are going to focus more on education. We believe this is what is most important to folks at the moment. They hear a lot of “ You should change” but very little practical information. Their question is “How do I incorporate these changes into our lives?” We are renaming our education program from workshops to experiences. Why? Workshop has a unexciting feel to it, IE boring! We want education with us to be interesting, exciting, and motivating.

Only in Ohio – We will only do business in Ohio. We have had requests from out of state but the logistics are complicated. Delivery and education can become expensive and tough to accomplish. We choose to keep it simple. We do deliver anywhere in Ohio.

Above all else, we want to provide the customer with the best possible products and services!

Behind the scenes – Diane and I have decided to let our inner artist come out. This will result is some interesting new products. Wood, leather, and photography will be our medium. Some items will be functional, some will be purely artistic and some a combination of both. Stay tuned to see what comes!

Diane and I have gone through some great turmoil recently including the recent death of her father on Christmas day. This has caused us to re-evaluate our goals and priorities. We will be making conscious choices about what we do and how we do it. We encourage all of you to do the same. Live a conscious life. Withdraw from the race you probably didn't know you entered. Make people the first priority. Many of us have gotten away from material things, only to replace it with accomplishments. How many feathers can we have in our caps, how many committees can we be a part of. For most of us it becomes another job. One we grow to resent and it gives no satisfaction. We are focusing on eliminating the unnecessary and unsatisfying. We will be less tied to the clock and more tied to people. By the way, how many things do you have that tell the time? Think about it! We are creating a more spiritual life. One with quality people and relationships and time to enjoy them all.
