Just stuff! You know when your in the moment you think it's a big deal but it turns out it's just life. Buddhist philosophy - Take pleasure in the journey not the destination. How horrible would life be if we had to wait until the end to have fun. Many of us do that though. I'll have fun when ? is done or I get ?. It doesn't work like that. Have fun everyday and with each moment!
Things have slowed down and we've managed to turn our attention to some other aspects of business and life. Which for us is much the same thing. No we don't live for the business, but we are so passionate about what we do to earn money (notice I didn't say living!) it's hard to separate business and personal stuff. In fact we don't have the need to separate them. When you love what you do, you don't have the need for "9-5 hours"!
Ohio Green Living Fayre - Folks don't miss this years event. It is shaping up to be a great one! It's at Zanes Landing Park in downtown Zanesville Ohio. Great vendors, workshops and music, all with a sustainable living focus! We'll be there with a booth and a Rain Water Harvesting workshop. I(Chris) will also be part of Simply Living's ATP (Alternative Transportation Project) giving Walk, Bus Bike - Routes to a better society. Oh did I mention, one of our rain barrels will be a door prize. Be sure to fill out your ticket stub!
This is the first year under Simply Living's umbrella and they have been a huge supporter for us. Volunteers, advertising and insurance help. They've been great. If you like the OGL Fayre, you need to check out Simply Living. There all about sustainable living and then some.
Workshops - In case you haven't notice, we've added a new workshop, Green Cleaning. Our first class will be October 22, 2009 at 7:00 pm right here at Little Square Farm. Also check out our others workshops. Just because it will start getting cold outside is no reason to stop learning. Be ready for next year!
I was our local NBC station recently. We did two segments one on urban gardening and another on rain water harvesting. Each was only about a minute and a half long and turned out pretty good. The reporter, Damon Young is really passionate about sustainable living.
Vacation - We spent a few days at Blue Rock Station animal and house sitting. Jay, Annie and Catlyn took a short but well deserved vacation. We stayed and took care of the dog, cats, chickens, goats and lamas. It's no wonder they don't watch tv, they have Farmvision! It's better than any reality show ever! Try keeping a kid goat from his mother when your trying to ween them. I know where the term scapegoat came from!
Finally, remodeling our house. At least parts of it.A winter project starting with the bathroom and then the kitchen. We plan to use a lot of green materials, including salvaged and re-purposed materials. The bathroom will have a old bathing cabinet and wash basin as the vanity. Throw in some salvaged tile and barn wood and you've got a unique bathroom with great character. We traded some mechanical work for a mid 50s Magic Chef gas stove. It cleaned up very well and will give the kitchen a retro feel with out the expense! That has inspired us to resurrect the cast iron cookware we've been collecting for a few years now. Our house was built in 1955 and we may be going back in time!
That's all for now!
Chris
