Why should you harvest rain water?

> The same water exists today that existed 2000 years ago.

> It’s a wasted resource.

> It allows you to use “free” water for many things around your home. You can use it for you plants, your garden, your animals, washing windows etc...

> Rain water contains far fewer chemicals than tap water.

> Allowing rain water to travel through the sewer system adds cost and raises the energy required for municipal systems.

> Residential water usage account for 50% of the total usage in the United States. 50% of the residential usage is outdoor usage ie. grass and landscape.

> You can collect .6 gallons of rain water on 1 square foot of surface area and 1” of rain. The central Ohio area averages 37” of rain per year. On 1000 sq. ft. you could potentially collect 22,200 gallons of water per year!

Water Harvesting tips.

> Barrels can be ganged together for additional storage capacity.

> 1 gallon of water weighs 8 pounds. If you choose to use a stand, be sure it’s strong enough. A 55 gallons barrel weighs 440 lbs. when full!

> Clean your barrel once a year. Debris collects at the bottom and it should be cleaned periodically.

> The barrel should not be used when the temperature is below freezing. Over time, the freeze/thaw cycle can weaken the barrel. We recommend draining and turning the barrel over each fall.

> Don’t’ like the color - no problem! The barrels can be painted using a good quality plastic paint
